A restriction fulfilling the function of a primary converter, is installed in a pipeline and produces in it a local change of a flow section. The method depends upon the fact that an increase in velocity and kinetic energy of the flow behind the restriction as compared with the parameters upstream of it, brings about a decrease in a static pressure pout downstream of the restriction with respect to the pressure pin upstream of it. The following designs of orifice are used: Closely related to orifices, but offering advantages of better downstream pressure recovery and sometimes range, in exchange for increased cost, are a whole variety of other restriction designs. Different types of orifice plates

Within the meter there are two or more chambers formed by movable diaphragms. With the gas flow directed by internal valves , the chambers alternately fill and expel gas, producing a nearly continuous flow through the meter. As the diaphragms expand and contract, levers connected to cranks convert the linear motion of the diaphragms into rotary motion of a crank shaft which serves as the primary flow element.

Written by Matt Milbury on 22 January Posted in Pipe Flange Orifice flanges are for metering the volumetric flow rate of liquids and gasses through a pipe. Two orifice flanges are called an orifice flange union. Each flange comes with two pipe taps for measuring the pressure drop of the flow through an orifice plate. Orifice plates do not come with the flanges and are sized based on the requirements of the process.

Two jack screws are used to spread the flanges apart in order to change the orifice plate. This flange is normally available in weld neck, slip-on, and threaded flanges. These flanges have a raised face. Orifice flanges are installed in a straight run of pipe in order to avoid turbulence at the plate. As a rule of thumb, an orifice flange has ten diameters of straight pipe upstream and five diameters of pipe downstream.

When installing the orifice plate flange the pressure taps need to be at the same elevation to each other. The assumption when making the calculation for the orifice plate is that static head of the tubes is the same on both sides of the orifice plate.

Application[ edit ] Orifice plates are most commonly used to measure flow rates in pipes, when the fluid is single-phase rather than being a mixture of gases and liquids, or of liquids and solids and well-mixed, the flow is continuous rather than pulsating, the fluid occupies the entire pipe precluding silt or trapped gas , the flow profile is even and well-developed and the fluid and flow rate meet certain other conditions. Under these circumstances and when the orifice plate is constructed and installed according to appropriate standards, the flow rate can easily be determined using published formulae based on substantial research and published in industry, national and international standards.

Plates are commonly made with sharp-edged circular orifices and installed concentric with the pipe and with pressure tappings at one of three standard pairs of distances upstream and downstream of the plate; these types are covered by ISO and other major standards. There are many other possibilities. The edges may be rounded or conical, the plate may have an orifice the same size as the pipe except for a segment at top or bottom which is obstructed, the orifice may be installed eccentric to the pipe, and the pressure tappings may be at other positions.

This is for people who are familiar with electricity and have a voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter and enough common sense not to fry themselves. There are two basic symptoms: First make sure you have put he cover back on the control box if it is 1 HP or less. Start at the pressure switch with the switch wedged open with a non-conductor and measure voltage leg to leg-AND to ground. If you do not have volts unless it is a rare volt motor trace back to the circuit breaker or fuse box.

If you have volts to ground on both legs at the pressure switch, you have both legs on the same hot leg and thus zero potential difference between them.

For those of you who may not be familiar with this carb, it is a carburetor that was designed primarily for racing and it has a rich racing heritage. They were also common in many formula cars. Those stacks were invariably Weber IDA carbs.

They are also often used as a performance upgrade for air-cooled VWs and a three-barrel variant designated the IDA3C is often used as an aftermarket go-fast goodie for Porsches. The Weber IDA is a remarkable carburetor. It is a two-barrel progressive carb that is almost infinitely adjustable. Depending on how you do the counting, there are 10 or so individual parts that are available in different sizes for tuning.

Introduction to Restriction orifice RO Restriction orifice RO is mainly used to achieve controlled or restricted flow of process medium. The orifice offers a restriction to the process flow and the pressure head drops from the upstream to the downstream. The permanent pressure loss by the device is the intended pressure drop for which it is sized. The area of the orifice determines the rate of flow at the outlet of a given process fluid for the specified pressure and temperature.

It also enables coils to be energized for an extended period of time without burnout.
